Organized in 1874 by C.B. Wright and associates of Philadelphia, the company purposed to acquire lands at Tacoma necessary for the new townsite. Claiming ground under public land laws, donation land claimants and settlers owned the main part of the townsite, which was in turn purchased by NP.
